Delighted with the room, with super bathroom, fluffy towels and high spec. Nice staff, good food and we enjoyed the roof terrace heated pool in February as well as the basement spa. Good location for all the attractions of barcelona. Will recommend

Stayed here for 3 nights with my wife. Couldn`t have asked for anything nicer. Only minor gripe is that he steam room wasn`t working and there are only two loungers by the indoor pool - which, being February, we had to use. Otherwise superb. Excellent choice at breakfast and good service. The roof terrace must be an awesome place to catch some sun when the weather`s a bit warmer - great views in all directons. For excellent Tapas at very reasonable price try `Taller de Tapas` (sunday times recommended) - 5 mins walk away on Comtal.

The location makes this hotel great for sight seeing and from the outside it looks wondeful. First impressions carry on through the rest of the hotel, the rooms, the bar, the buffet breakfasts and the friendly staff. But don`t miss..... the roof top terrace, great to laze and read a book after a hard days sight seeing ot to enjoy a warm moonlight swim. And even more decadent is to sauna and steam before enjoying a swim in the beautifully vaulted spa. We really enjoyed our stay and would love to come back soon.

The hotel was really lovely but i found the front of staff checking us in not particularly welcoming. I would stay here again but probably try to get a room on the 3rd floor or above as the noise from the kitchen and restaurent could be heard on the second floor (we were in room 205.)There were corporate meetings going on when we arrived and the guests returned very late from a night out and were very noisy but not sure what the hotel could have done about that.The breakfast was good and the staff pleasant.Very well situated.

STAYED DECEMBER 2007, FOR THE NEW YEAR, FOR 4 DAYS, EVERYTHING ABOUT THE HOTEL WAS AMAZING. WOULD LIKE TO RETURN WHEN THE ROOFTOP POOL IS AVAILABLE.

We booked the hotel very last minute and so glad we did. The location is perfect, we walked out of the side door and we were on Las Ramblas. The rooms were very nice but slightly on the warm side even when the thermostat turned down. The room was cleaned and tidied twice a day. We also had breakfast included well worth the money with the option of champagne every morning. The pool, sauna etc in the basement were excellent and perfect after a day doing the tourist trail. Even in the rain we tried the the pool on the roof which was warmer than the main pool. Great hotel with very friendly staff.

i found my stay at the hotel nothing but enjoyable. the staff were very friendly and did everything to make our stay enjoyable. the interior is absolutly gorgeous and the rooms equally the same. The leisure facilities were excellent, i can reccommend the massages also. our maid came in twice a day to tidy the room and when asked for the breakfast brought to the room it was almost instant. overall this hotel is well worth the money and a beautiful hotel

This hotel is fantastic in every way - not to be missed if you are staying in Barcelona. It`s ideally placed to see the sights (just down from the main square where the buses pick up, central to the shopping areas, just up from the port and on the ramblas itself) and the staff are brilliant. No faults or complaints at all - just great!

We have stayed at this hotel before and when we arrived they upgraded us to superior rooms free of charge. It was a pity our flight on Thursday from Newcastle was cancelled due to snow but the 2 nights we stayed were grest. Bedrooms are very comfortable. The maid service is fantastic. There are free toiletries and towels every day. You get your own robe and slippers in your room. The beds are turned down every evening and mats placed at either side of the bed. The spa is great we did not use the roof terrace but I believe the splash pool on the roof is heated.

This hotel is ideal for those who like to be in the middle of it all. The indoor spa is excellent for unwinding after a day sightseeing. With a metro stop just outside and easy access to all the shops it is ideal. The continental breakfast is good aswell.

The high cost was reflected by the luxury experienced. A thoroughly enjoyable stay and we were made to feel our satisfaction was important; All staff were attentive and effecient; Everywhere was clean; The buffet breakfast was excellent for quality and choice; The reception/Lounge/Bar area had a very good ambience. Very minor criticisms (RELUCTANTLY mentioned!!) just for the record:- Double wardrobe hanging space would have been better, although it was OK for a 3 night stay. The room was quiet, but not as quiet as I expected (marketing claims need checking) The instructions for the very welcome room safe facility were difficult to read (torch required.) Fix the squeeky toaster!!!!!!!

The Hotel was beautiful kept to a really high standard, The staff where very friendly and helpful, and the food and service in the restuarant was excellent. There are no bad comments about our stay and the quality of the hotel.Would definately recommend it.

The Hotel is beautifully and stylishly decorated both in the communal areas and the bedrooms. The standard of cleanliness is very high. The staff are discreet, friendly, helpful and very efficient. Nothing is too much trouble. The position of the Hotel right on La Rambla is perfect for visitors wishing to experience the hustle and bustle of life in this part of town. We would without a doubt recommend Hotel 1898 to friends and family.

We booked a classic room and were upgraded to superior room at no extra cost. Hotel very central. Rooms really comfortable although the controls for the shower and bath were a bit confusing. Make sure you take them up on the offer of showing you how the things work. Did not try the restaurants but the breakfast which was included in the price was excellent. Would visit this hotel again.

We spent a long time choosing hotels for a short break in Barcelona, taking soundings from friends, reading reviews and looking up hotels in the Time Out Barcelona guide. We eventually settled on the 1898 based on its brilliant location on La Rambla, the spa/swimming pool and also the fact it wasn`t a chain hotel. We really feel like we made the best choice possible - staff were friendly and welcoming, the inclusive breakfast was excellent, the rooms were very well equipped with many nice touches (like 4 different settings for the lighting which sounds gimmicky but worked very well), the spa which was quiet and done to a high standard and then the ultra-convenient location that made shopping, eating out and going to bars a breeze. Would definitely stay at this hotel next time we`re in Barcelona. Highly recommended!!

Advertised as "soundproofed rooms" - don`t believe it. They may be double glazed, but noise from nearby rooms and corridors sounds like it`s coming from your bathroom!

I booked this trip for my boyfriends 40th birthday. We only stayed the one night and i spent ages looking on the internet for a nice hotel. More than happy with my choice. great decor , lovely bedroom ( even though only standard room ) . Indoor swimming pool is a must (very romantic) . This hotel is even better than its web site pictures. staff very helpfull. no negatives to report which is very rare.

We had a lovely stay at this hotel - 3 nights in total. It is a great base for discovering Barcelona. The breakfast buffet was very good with plenty of choice. The hotel had a great ambience and the staff were helpful and friendly. The room was well laid out, spotlessly clean and nice and quiet. We would stay there again and would recommend to our friends

This is an excellent hotel which is trying hard to make a name for itself having only opened for business two years ago. It is located right on Las Ramblas and is within walking distance of main shopping areas and sights. Upon arrival we were upgraded to a superior room at no extra cost. Our room was lovely with all the mod cons, Flat screen TV, programmable lighting superb shower and balcony overlooking a pedestrain area. All very clean. Breakfasts were good. We never ate dinner so cannot comment. Roof terrace was also lovely with great views. The only negative point was the drinks prices which were extortionate. Because of this we hardly used the bar at all. Beware the expensive drinks and poor quality food on Las Ramblas generally. It is worth walking further afield for better restaurants and reasonable prices. If we were going back to Barcelona we would definitely stay at Hotel 1898 again.

We were very impressed with the hotel. Room was excellent, service was excellent, food was excellent. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definately recommend to anyone. First class!

This is one of the best hotels we have stayed in. The position is excellent and you are in walking distance of most of the tourist attractions. The staff in the hotel are very welcoming, polite and friendly. Excellent rooms with all you require for a pleasant stay. The reception area is inviting and the bar and restuarant are first class. The overall cleanliness of the hotel is superb. This is more like staying at a 5 star hotel. We would highly recommend and we will return.

Wonderful hotel, room was lovely very clean. Staff were polite and very helpful. Very good location. Breakfast very good lots to choose from. Drinks pricey but we expected that. All in all we enjoyed our stay and would definately come back again.

Hotel was nice, only dissapointment was that there was no iron`s in the whole hotel, and yes there was an (expensive) ironing service which was not very unrealible and closed at 10.00pm.So if you changed your mind on what you were going to wear or spilled anything on your clothes and it`s after about 9.45 pm you couldn`t and had to walk around with creased up cloths looking very silly.

The hotel is centrally located which was a top priority making it easy to travel all over the city with metro stations nearby. The staff were professional, curteous and friendly. The main reception area is welcoming with a lovely bar. There is a peaceful library with free internet access on the first floor. We stayed in a classic room which was beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable. The choice for breakfast caters for a wide variety of tastes and was very enjoyable. Finally, the roof top pool - a little piece of heaven - located on the top floor with wonderful views of Barcelona, a waiter service for food and drinks and a lovely relaxed seating area. It didn`t get any better than this!

This was very close to becoming an excellent but I made it a good mainly because I didn`t find the concierge staff particularly knowledgeable or helpful or the breakfast staff very friendly. I know they have to get to work early but come on......
