We stayed 30th December to 1st Jan, and swam in the outdoor heated rooftop pool by day and night - it`s free to use if you`re a hotel guest, as is the indoor pool (and steam room, sauna and smal gym) downstairs. The breakfasts - a colossal buffet - was fantastic too: a huge range a fresh fruit, cheeses, hams, cereals, pastries etc etc. A great hotel.

If you want to be in Ramblas, this is a beautiful and comfortable property with a lovely rooftop to lounge out at during the day. Staff are helpful for being Spanish, but really not as helpful as they should be and 2 cuts below the likes of Mandarin Oriental, Hotel Arts, etc.

Hotel 1898 cant do enough for you, from entering the lobby to check in, to checking out.Rooms are excellent decoration and cleanliness of a very high standard.Staff were helpful and committed to our well being at all times, nothing seems to be a problem and all staff are knowledgeable and professionalRoof terrace and pool were outstanding.Breakfast is without a doubt the best we have ever had in any hotel world wide.We would stay here again without hesitation and we would recommend 1898 to everyone. If you are coming to Barcelona do not miss 1898 it is a gem.

Had 4 nights at Hotel 1898 - can`t fault it - gorgeous buffet breakfast with everything you could want. Spa area is lovely, clean and well maintained and relaxing after a day looking at all the sights. Hotel is in a very good central position on the La Ramblas. Would highly recommend this hotel.

What a lovely hotel. it is sumptuous and elegant. Friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere. Gorgeous views over the city from the fabulous roof terrace. Loved it!

Everything about hte hotel was first class. from the moment you walk through the doors you are wrapped in luxary and rtreated like visiting royalty. really coiuld not fault it. Rooms are spacious and well equiped. Beds are wonderfully soft with a wide choice of pillows, there is even a menu for them! The public areas are beautifully appointed with loats of comfortable seating. Both swimming pools are small but big enough to have a nice swim and relax in after some serious shopping. The rooftop terrace is diven with amazing panoramic views of the city and the sea. A great place to catch the sun or to unwind with a drink in the evening.

Staff were very friendly and helpful, think that we must have been upgraded as the room was bigger than I thought it would be which was lovely. Had a great time, very relaxing and welcoming.

Fabulous rooms, comfortable and friendly bar, great location. Only negative is the restaurant, very pretentious and lacking in atmosphere.

beautiful hotel, roof terrace with blankets and staff amazingly friendly/. Breakfast was the best breakfast I have ever seen with such a beautiful array of fresh fruit for those of trying to stay healthy. Would recommend this for couples or anyone wanting a special break

The hotel was as described in the online reviews we had read . The staff were excellent, room was great and breakfast to die for, not much more one can say except we will go back and would recommend this hotel to anyone

We stayed at the 1898 as fort-something couple in August 2010. The Location of the hotel is superb, right in the heart of La Rambla`s. The hotel is a couples dream with a spa in the basement which is first class up to the roof with it`s outdoor pool and lounging areas, perfect for sunbathing or enjoying a nightcap at night in the open air, overlooking the city. nothing was too much trouble for the staff. This is not a cheap hotel, but if you want to pampering in style for a few days, this is the place.

excellent facilities, helpful and pleasant staff, great breakfast, comfortable bedrooms. only downside was hearing some noise from the street on saturday night

Hotel 1898 was the most wonderful Hotel, All the staff were kind and very efficient, most helpful. The Breakfast was superb and well worth the price. The location couldn`t have been better, it was central for all the Restaurants and Bars and the Hop on Hop off Bus which was great, it should be a Five Star Hotel.

Great hotel, staff very polite and helpful. Central location couldn`t fault it definately recommend it.

The staff were very helpful particularly on reception. Service around the pool was a little slow but really it didn`t matter to us.

Stayed for a long weekend, the location is right in the heart of things, but not so that its noisy. the staff went out of their way to make us have a great stay. Champagne breakfast on the roof terrace was amazing! swimming pool very relaxing, all in all would recommend this hotel to anyone.

We arrived to find that our room was not available however this took only 10 mins to sort out and we had a realy nice room on the 4th floor at the side of the hotel.The breakfast which was included in our room cost was excelent and well presented. The heated roof top pool was a realy nice place to relax at the end of the day with good bar service, All in all a very nice place to stay and well positioned, would recomend to anyone.

The hotel is one of the nicest I have stayed in for a long time. As a family with twins of ten years old we need two rooms. Sadly Hotel 1898 does not have any interconnecting rooms. This turned out to be a real pain even though we were next to each other. It meant one adult and one child sleeping in each room.So our view really is that it is fabulous for couples, business people and families where the children are old enough to be in a room on their own, but for us it let us down.

Hotel is fantastic inside, but the best feature is the roof terrace, with shade, open areas & pool. No need to go to the beach, get covered in sand & fight the masses. Highly recommended.

Excellent Location ,Room and hotel generally spotless ,pleasant staff ,could not fault it , would recommend asking for a room with external veiw as some are situated around the central courtyard/lightwell.Would definately stay there again on our next trip to the cityJohn and Kelly.....................................................Southampton

While rooms good, money making the objective, alcohol too expensive and staff on terrace very inflexible, wont be back

The rooms are comfortable & a decent size.The buffet breakfast is excellent every thing you could possibly want.We did have one evening meal at the hotel, this is possibly the only area for improvement,maybe the hotel could employ a more creative chef.
