Budget hotel according to reviews and the websites but, without a doubt, don`t let the exterior or the area put you off. When you walk through the doors you will be in a very clean and friendly environment and, If you are travelling alone and do not want to brave the city, there is a nice restaurant providing a good variety of dishes at a range of prices - something to suit everybody. The breakfast is excellent, made to order with good, fast service. Unlike many city hotels, the manager Ian is interested in the guests and you feel that nothing is too much trouble.
The hotel doesnt look much from the outside but once you`re in it is very pleasant and if you`re looking for great value for money in the centre of Leeds then this is the place to stay. We didn`t go by car but I understand its about £10 a day to park.
BreakFast good Value!, check out efficient good value for money hotel. Staff all very friendly and attentive
Some small problems which could have been solved if staying longer eg flickering bathroom light, tv wouldn`t work, no wireless signal, side lights would not switch on independently from main light. No toiletries except at reception but by the time I was too far to go back down. Would have been better if flagged at reception.
Good: Close to city centre Bad: Noisy. Bath Room in need of refurbishment.
a wonderful central hotel with wonderful staff. it was clean and tidy, it felt safe for a single female travelling. the hotel reception were so helpful and kind, i really appreciate that. i would go back there in a heart beat and would highly recommend to anyone. It was truly unbelievable service and value for the price paid.
Room was comfortable, clean and warm all modern facilities..
Need to make clear off peak carpark next door is only £2 at weekends
The staff at this hotel are amongst the most caring and helpful I have met, and I`ve done a good deal of travelling. The hotel is very clean, my room was well equipped with all I needed for a very comfortable overnight stay in Leeds. I recommend this hotel to all travellers.
Hotel staff are friendly , the room was clean and very comfortable to stay in . I felt very relaxed staying at hotel and would recommend it to others.
Exceedingley unimpressed
I would definately recomend this hotel to anyone. We were all very pleased with the standard and after going feeling a little dubious about the standard of the hotel as it said 3 star and was extremely reasonable - we all came away delighted with everyting about it and would rate it verging on a 4 star.
Defintely recommended, but with pros and cons. There`s a new manager (Ian) who has some traditional values and believes in greeting guests personally where possible, and in taking a very hands-on role in the running of the hotel. The location was excellent, my room was comfy and clean, everything worked, and I had a single room including breakfast for £39. The downsides are that the surroundings are pretty dated (though in good order), the breakfast was adequate but with limited choice, and the car parking is a public multi-storey that added £20 to my costs for a weekend stay. However I found the Merrion to be a decent hotel in a good location at a great price (Nov 2010), and would stay again.
staff were pleasant and very helpful. Room was a little cold with no apparent option to have the radiator on more than barely lukewarm (5th floor so may be a pump issue). A little unreasonable to charge a double room rate for a single and then have a single-bedded room - the extra tariff is usually justifed in that you are taking a room that could be used by two
We enjoyed our stay and the location and accommodation were good value for money
The hotel is in a good location in the centre of Leeds, next to a multi-storey carpark. Even with hotel discount, parking cost £10.50. Rooms comfy, if a lttle over heated (8/10). Friendly, corteous but disorganised staff [ no cups but 2 saucers in double room. Given key to someone else`s single room. No one on the bar for 10-15 mins at 6.20 saturday.. Breakfast shambolic except for freshly cooked breakfast (3/10)
I enjoyed my stay at the Merrion. My room was very comfortable. The breakfast was the only disappointing feature - there was something very old-fashioned about what was on offer, my poached egg was watery and the coffee not good.
Really uncomfortable bed!! Good location, but is in need of some decoration and refurbishment. Don`t think I would visit again
the hotel was very clean and the food was excellent.the staff was very efficient and friendly.i had a most enjoyable stay and will definately be back . thank you
Impolite staff especially at the breakfast area
Only complaint was that the toilet leaked so upon entering the bathroom for the first time there was a dangerous puddle of water on the floor - after that we had to use the shower mat to absorb the leak
Stayed the weekend of the 8th October, was quiet, clean and close to shops pubs and clubs. Hotel staff very pleasant and helpful
What fun I had at the Merrion Hotel! Wasn`t sure what to expect for the price but was pleasantly suprised! Comfortable beds and spacious room. will always stay again - brilliant location
The hotel is friendly and the service good. The room service sandwiches could be improved. I will stay there again as I have friends in the Leeds area.
the stay at the hotel was good , only problem was we booked an evening meal and there was a limited menu i.e somethings not available .I had the sirlion steak which was £19 . this came and was very disappointing . not worth the very high price being charged . the service from the only member of staff left a lot to be desired . The rest of the staff in the hotel were very warm and friendly , and nothing was any trouble . I would stop at this hotel again , but would dine out . thank you
Had all I needed - clean and well appointed room, helpful staff and perfectly adequate breakfast, all at a remarkably low price
We were not shown to a table, not shown a menu. We were asked what we would like and we replied what have you got, the young man said bacon, sausages, tomato, eggs and mushrooms, so we said we would have this. We had to ask for more glasses for the fruit juice, more butter and we had no teaspoons on our cups. When we left we saw menus by the door with all sorts on it. There was only two other people in the restaurant so it was not even busy. The date was Monday 20th Sept. and the time was 9.10am. The tea wasn`t very nice either, very disappointed.
Clean and tidy but deco decor showed its age. Bit annoyed I had to pay £10 to park on multistorey next door - and that`s with a discount from the hotel.
Smelly room exchanged for a clean room following complaint.. Reception area worn out. Advertised as a Best Western Hotel but it was not. Breakfast cold buffet and served hot breakfast. Undeserving of 3 stars.
Would have liked more information on what facilities were available in the Hotel eg Bars, Dining etc and perhaps a list of restaurants close to the Hotel if catering was not available.
Looks very unkept on approach, the reception area is very poor and needs updating. The bedroom was clean but there was no toileteries and the TV needs replacing. The staff were nice.
There were holes in the doors with tissue in and holes in cabinets that should of had switches for the tv on and off and the lights
We normally stop at the station side of leeds and this was the first time we were going to a gig at the top end of town, We were really pleased with the hotel, Parking deal with the multi-storey kept the price for overnight parking reasonable which is always a concern in Leeds. Its location would be good for all Leeds center events and we would always go back here. The Hotel Direct free breakfast bonus was good, Self service hot breakfast with all the usual choice, Someone asked for fried eggs instead of scrambled eggs which were available and they cooked these for them with no problem, Theres a Witherspoons pub across the road for cheap drinks and dining and a shopping center at the side of the hotel for all you needs. Easy check in/out with pleasant staff.
