Excellent staff, amenities, facilities

Nice, clean premises with the most comfortable bed in short walking distance from the centre

The only problem we found was the left luggage room was not locked nor was a control kept on it - anyone could take any bag if they so wished!

We think that we should have been advised about car parking and the need to pay extra for it when we made the booking. We would liked to have purchased a continental breakfast had it been available.

I would recommend the hotel 53 to anybody who wants a very clean and very well run hotel to stay in whilst inYork. Bed was big and comfy and shower very good. Thank you.

The rooms are very basic but totally adequate. They do not have a wardrobe or bedside tables so if you were staying longer than a weekend this could be annoying. Very good location within five minutes walking distance to the centre of the town.

Hotel nice and clean, staff helpful, room tended to be cold shower room and toilet freezing, dont bother booking breakfast not worth going for much better to eat out, because of the quality of breakfast we didnt dine in the hotel in the evenings.

The staff were very helpfull and freindly, the bedroom was big enough but no wardrobe and the shower was a bit of a let down, it was a bit fiddley to get the correct temp. the resterant was very good. and the location is good for short walk to the shops/pubs. very dissapointed at having to pay £10 per night for hotel parking

The room was lovely and very modern. The bedding was inadequate and the duvet was far too light for a winter night. The heating went off remotely and the room was cold in the early hours. The location of the hotel is fantastic but would suggest finding your own parking space. Would stay again but not in the winter.

The reception staff were very helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was very nice. The only criticism I would have is that the double bed was quite small but that aside, I wouldn`t hesitate in booking this hotel again. It was very central and suited our needs.

Hotel 53 is well situated for city attractions but from our room we were surprised at how much noise we heard --- from traffic as well as from people who stayed out longer than we did !The room was clean and comfortable and dining room staff were pleasant and efficient. We would stay there again.

Can`t fault this hotel for cleanliness, facilities, location and politeness of staff. The only problem was the black pudding was brick hard which was a bit disappointing. I would certainly book this hotel again.

clean, tidy and in a good location for york, good service although we only stopped for one night but this wasn`t our first time and we`ve never had a complaint before.

Really nice hotel, friendly and functional, only negative comment would be that our room was above air con units so was a little noisy.

We really enjoyed this modern, convenient hotel. The lobby was spacious and welcoming. The staff were friendly and efficient. The rooms were very well equipped. The staff at breakfast were exceptionally good; often a weak point in hotels. Only improvements would be to have fried eggs to order or do not bother and to have instructions about how to use the shower - it took me three coldish showers to work out how to get a hot one! Would recommend a visit to the hotel to anyone.

We had a excellent stay in Hotel 53, the staff were all very polite and helpful, especially the lady behind the front desk! The breakfast was great with lots of variety to choose from and again staff were very helpful and polite. The bedroom and bathroomwas very clean, modern and comfortable. The bedroom had a hairdryer and tea/coffee facilities. It was just right for the two of us. With a lovely big powerful shower and lots of clean towels.We were both very happy with the Hotel and would definately stay again and recommend it to our friends.

Clean and tidy rooms, bathroom clean with excellent power shower. Breakfast was varied and good quality, liked the idea of breakfast being served upto 11 o`clock at the weekends!!!Staff friendly and polite. Ideally located only a couple of minutes walk to local attractions and centre of town. Would stay at this hotel again.

The room was clean and spacious and service was good. The breakfast was good and overall the whole staywas excellent value for money. I would definitely stay agin. Thank you for a very nice start to my stay in York.

Hotel 53 represented good value for money. The bedroom was comfortable but short of storage space and the lack of bedside tables was irritating. Shower room was attractive and a reasonable size. Breakfast for those coming down after 9.00am was a little dried out, but good sausages and bacon. These are minor complaints - overall, attractive decor, helpful staff and comfortable surroundings.

Overall opinion of hotel and facilities good, however, our experience of breakfast was not good! The cooked food was barely warm and I have to say I have never seen coffee the like of which I was served at breakfast! It was very black and remained so even when milk was added and having drunk the "coffee" there was what can only be discribed as a layer of black "sludge" at the bottom of the cup! Our son and his girlfriend shared breakfast with us for one morning and were disgusted with the quality of the food!

Room rather pokey and dark for £s. Breakfast good but could be replenished more frequently. I was scraping the dishes a bit and it was only 08:00. They were fully replenished as I was finishing....decent choice though - you might consider vegi `meat` alternatives.
